"The Bay Country"
On first appearance, the title of this book seems like Bay County is misspelled. But the Bay Country was the name of the St. Andrews Bay area to those who journeying to the beaches for a summer holiday or for a fishing trip long years ago.
Articles in the book tell about the naming of the various places and communities, many of which are now ghost towns; stories of Lynn Haven as told through Alice Ward’s diaries; a paradise for fishermen and a haven for treasure hunters; the development of the beaches; the establishment of what became the town of St. Andrews almost 200 years ago; a few of the area’s sensational murders; destructive hurricanes; shipbuilding in Millville during WW I; the establishment of military bases at the beginning of WW II; burial practices and this area’s many graveyards; and what it was like to homestead property here before and after 1900.
